A Refreshing Break for You. An Exciting Change for Them.
Caring for a loved one is a rewarding journey, but it is also a demanding one. At Care 4 Community, we understand that to provide the best care, you need time to recharge.
Our Short-Term Accommodation (STA) – commonly known as Respite – offers a flexible solution that benefits everyone. It gives caregivers a well-deserved rest while providing NDIS participants with a safe, enjoyable “holiday” away from their usual routine, filled with new activities and social connections.
What is Short-Term Accommodation (STA)?
Short-Term Accommodation (STA) is NDIS-funded support for when you need to live out of home for a short period. It is designed to support you when your usual carers are unavailable or simply when you need a change of scenery.
It is more than just a bed.
Our STA services in Melbourne include everything you need for a comfortable stay:
- 24/7 Support: Qualified staff available day and night to assist with personal care and medication.
- Accommodation: A safe, accessible home environment (often called “Cottage Respite”).
- Meals: All daily meals and refreshments are included.
- Activities: Fun, community-based activities tailored to your interests.
Our Respite Options: Flexible & Tailored
We know that every family’s situation is unique. That is why we offer different types of respite across the Cranbourne, Frankston, and Mornington Peninsula areas.
1. In-Home Respite

- Best for: Participants who feel most comfortable in their own environment.
- How it works: Our support worker comes to your home for a few hours or overnight. This allows the primary caregiver to step out for appointments, social events, or simply to get a full night’s sleep while we handle the care, cooking, and companionship.
2. Centre-Based & Community Respite

- Best for: Social interaction and meeting new friends.
- How it works: Participants join us at a local centre or community hub for the day (approx. 6 hours). We provide transport to and from the venue, engaging in group activities, outings, and skill-building exercises.
3. Residential / Cottage Respite (STA)

- Best for: A short holiday or when the primary carer is travelling.
- How it works: You stay in one of our fully accessible properties for a weekend or a few weeks. It is a warm, home-like environment with private rooms, accessible bathrooms, and communal living areas where you can relax or socialize.
4. Emergency Respite

- Best for: Unexpected life events.
- How it works: If a primary carer falls ill, has a family emergency, or is suddenly unavailable, we can arrange urgent respite care to ensure the participant remains safe and supported.
What is Included in NDIS STA Funding?
If you have funding for Core Supports in your NDIS plan, you can likely access STA. The funding typically covers the total cost of 24-hour support, including:
- Personal care assistance (showering, dressing).
- Accommodation costs in a respite home.
- Food and dining.
- Negotiated activities (movies, bowling, day trips).
Note: STA is generally funded for up to 14 days at a time. Our team can help you check your plan to see how many respite days you have available.
Why Choose Care 4 Community for Respite?
- Trust & Safety: Our staff are rigorously screened and trained to handle complex medical needs and behavioral support.
- Accessible Facilities: Our respite homes feature ramps, wide hallways, anti-slip flooring, and lowered amenities to accommodate wheelchairs and mobility aids.
- Fun-Focused: We don’t just “watch” you. We create an itinerary of activities—from art classes to beach visits—so your time away feels like a true vacation.
- Caregiver Support: We view ourselves as partners to the primary carer. We follow your routine to ensure a smooth transition back home.
